SOUTH OF THE STARS, CENTER OF THE STORY
While Los Angeles is known for its glitz and glam to the north, Chelsea’s story unfolds in the neighborhoods that breathe life into the real city. As a Los Angeles native, Chelsea’s love runs deep for South Central, an area rich in Black culture, history, and resilience. “One thing about LA is, we’re hustlers. It’s what keeps the city going. I think that’s what influences me the most. There’s a million ways to get to it, you just have to find what works for you! ” Jones emphasizes.
South of the stars, away from the Hollywood spotlight, Chelsea found her true calling—connecting people through the flavors of soul-food, passed down through generations in her family. Her vision extended beyond merely providing food for the neighborhood; she aimed to establish a place where the community could unite, exchange stories, and savor a meal that evokes the feeling of home.
COMMUNITY AT THE CORE
For Chelsea, her establishment is not just a restaurant; it serves as a community hub. She is deeply engaged in supporting local businesses, participating in neighborhood activities, and mentoring young entrepreneurs. “If we don’t support one another, who will? ” she insists. Jones shares her love for giving back to the community she cherishes. In her interview with SBRBN, she highlights a tradition at the Louisiana Fried Chicken shopping center, where they close the restaurant on Thanksgiving, set up chairs and tables for locals, and provide free meals until the food runs out. “There’s no qualifications for who we choose to give meals to, Just pull up, eat and fellowship.” Chelsea tells SBRBN.
Chelsea also serves on the Board of Directors as the Director of Communications for the National Black MBA Association, where she lead an academic organization dedicated to fostering community, strength, and belonging. She exemplifies her commitment with a genuine passion for serving and uplifting her community.
This same enthusiasm is evident in her business today—whether it’s a quick lunch or a family gathering, Chelsea’s spot is a place where South Central locals feel at home. She is very hands on daily, and the location is family driven. The warmth emanating from the kitchen extends to the front of the house, where Chelsea is known for greeting customers and sharing a laugh! “We are Black-Owned but we are also Family-Owned and operated” she shares with SBRBN.
